Is it OK to use teeth whitening solution in a retainer?

I got my braces off today and was given a clear, plastic retainer to wear at nights. Would it harm the plastic if I were to put teeth whitening solution in the plastic retainer and wear it over night?

    Ask your dentist.

It might, and since retainers are expensive since they are specifically made for your mouth I wouldn’t risk it without talking to your orthodontist and asking him first. There are a lot of whitening solutions that you only have on for 5 minutes or a half hour. I would do it right before bed and in the morning after brushing your teeth after breakfast.

I thought about doing that too, but maybe the chemicals may harm the material? You can actually buy a mouth guard from Walmart, boil it until it gets soft, place it on your teeth until it hardens and creates a retainer like mold. Use that for the whitening..Overnight is a long time, you should do it while awake

I saw a video done by an Orthodontist showing how on youtube, but I wouldn’t. I don’t see how it would work that well. Ask your orthodontist or try some strips/paint on you can buy at the store
